What it is

What fashion SEO means, and what I do

Fashion SEO is search marketing for online stores that sell clothing, shoes, jewelry, watches, bags and accessories, and for the brands behind them. It is ecommerce SEO with a few extra problems: huge variety, constant seasons, and shoppers who decide with their eyes.

Most fashion searches are specific. People look for a type of item ("linen shirt dress"), a style ("minimalist gold necklace"), an occasion, a material or a brand name. Each of those needs a page that matches it, with strong photos, accurate sizes and colours, and clear delivery and returns. A catalogue of thousands of near-identical products can also waste crawl time, so structure matters as much as copy.

I worked on a luxury clothing brand in Switzerland that had no SEO and wanted the US market. On BigCommerce, with a restructured site, targeted content and a backlink plan, it reached 2,700+ monthly organic visits in seven months, with Bing optimised alongside Google. I also worked on a luxury bag store in Spain, where product and category pages were rebuilt for AI systems and now appear in Google AI Overviews and ChatGPT answers. Both are in my case studies. The foundation is ecommerce SEO and technical SEO.

Your customers

How your customers search

Style and item searches

"Linen shirt dress" or "minimalist gold necklace". Specific category and collection pages win these.

Occasion and gift searches

Weddings, parties, birthdays. Guides and gift pages bring shoppers who have not picked a brand yet.

Brand and designer searches

People who already know your name. Your own store, not a reseller, should appear first.

Visual and AI-assisted searches

Shoppers now ask assistants "what should I wear to…". Clean product data and clear pages help you get recommended.

What I do

What I work on for a fashion or jewelry brand

Category and collection pages

Real descriptions, clear filters and a structure that matches how people shop, not a grid with no words.

Product pages that convince

Honest descriptions, fabric and care details, size guides and reviews, with photos that load fast on phones.

Seasonal planning

Collections and guides published ahead of each season, with a plan for what happens to out-of-season pages.

Filters and variants under control

Colour, size and sort options kept from creating thousands of near-duplicate URLs.

Product data and markup

Price, stock, sizes and review data in clean structured data, so it shows in results and reaches AI shopping tools.

Appearing in AI answers

Pages restructured so AI systems can read and quote them, and trusted mentions that support your brand.

International and multi-currency

Country versions set up correctly, so shoppers see the right language, price and delivery.

Guides and style content

Buying guides, size help and styling content that earns links and brings early-stage shoppers.

The difference

A store built around how people shop versus a product grid

Fashion shoppers browse by style and need reasons to trust a new brand.

Structured for shoppers (what I do)

  • Category pages with real content
  • Fast, honest product pages
  • Seasonal plan for collections
  • Clean variants and filters
  • Data ready for AI shopping tools

Just a product grid (the risk)

  • ✓ Collections with no explanation
  • ✓ Manufacturer text on every product
  • ✓ Out-of-season pages left to rot
  • ✓ Thousands of near-duplicate URLs
  • ✓ Invisible to AI assistants

Fix catalogue and technical issues

Size and colour variants, out-of-season products, filters and image speed.

3

Build category and lookbook content

Category pages and guides that match how people shop for clothing, jewellery and accessories.

4

Earn press and brand mentions

Fashion blogs, magazines and brand mentions that send real people, and real links, to your store.

5

Report on sales by collection

Clicks, rankings and orders by collection, with the next steps.

❓ Common Questions

Fashion SEO questions, answered plainly

How is fashion SEO different from general ecommerce SEO?
The foundations are the same, but fashion adds constant seasons, huge variety, many variants and visual decisions. Category structure, photo speed and seasonal planning matter more.
Not for the broadest terms. A new brand can win specific styles, materials, niches and its own brand name, then grow from there. That is how the Swiss clothing project started from zero.
Yes. Buyers behave in a similar way: they search by style, material and occasion and care a lot about photos and trust. Luxury bags are covered by my Spanish AI search case.
Shopify, WooCommerce, Magento and BigCommerce. My two fashion cases are on BigCommerce, and the approach carries across platforms.
I plan them in advance: keep and refresh evergreen pages, redirect or retire short-life ones, and avoid leaving thin, expired pages behind.
It can help. AI systems recommend brands they can read and trust: clear product data, quotable pages and mentions from reliable sources. See my AI SEO services.
